How to Create New File and Layer in Autocad 2006

This post will show 2 first steps for you to start drawing, create new file and layer.

CREATE NEW FILE

I`m sure everyone know how to create new file rightt?. You can click on your autocad icon on desktop and save as it as usual. But if you`re already on drawing window and want to create another new file here`s the steps:

1. You can go to FILE and click NEW or
2. You can click on the CREATE NEW icon on toolbar. like the pic below, see the orange underline.

3.or you can type QNEW on command line and the select template window will pop up. Choose acad and click open. Now you have new cad file.

CREATE A LAYER

Every time you start a new object i suggest you to create a layer. It will help you distinguish the objects, or when you edit them.

1. Type LA on command line and the layer properties manager will show up. Click the create new layer, type the object you want to draw,ex: as, wall, door,etc. Also you can change the color for each layer. See the pic below.

On your drawing window, every time you want to switch to draw another object ( layer already created ), click on the layer toolbar and the list will show. You can turn on / off the layer if you don`t need them on your drawing window.
